LL 9000 Hosts Mayoral Debate

The LL 9000 union hall was the location for a debate between Democrat John Spring (left) and Republican C. David Nuessen (right) — both candidates for the mayor of Ames, Iowa.

LL 9000 President Harlan Ellison (center), moderator of the 90-minute debate, said the good news was that both candidates called job creation in Ames their number one issue.

“It’s difficult to remain relatively calm when candidates bring up privatization of city services,” said Ellison. LL 9000 represents 120 Ames city employees.

After months of cancelled bargaining sessions and no new contract proposals from management, the Acme negotiating committee held an informational picket yesterday.

" We’re letting the public know that Acme is not bargaining fairly,” said committee head Larry Fine. “Acme loves good PR and I heard they are getting plenty of compaliants from Ames residents.”

The contract is set to expire April 29, 2005.
